Foods That Alkalize Us

04 June, 14:06, by Gloria

I have been doing a lot of gardening lately.  As I dig and weed in the warm, moist fragrant soil, my mind often turns to the body,  and how like a garden it is.  A garden, well weeded,  can produce wonderful fruits, flowers and vegetables, but if  left unattended,  weeds will take over,  and so  choke out all the good seeds that have been planted.  A gardener enriches the soil with minerals that help both the taste and the size of the produce, but the weeds will rob the produce of these minerals, growing bigger and stronger with them.  They will effectively choke them out if not stopped in time.

That happened to my Broccoli last summer.  I had paid no attention to its condition even when I picked it.  Then one day I went out, and except for one weak plant it was all gone.

Also, have you ever noticed how many weeds imitate the plants they grow with.  They are camouflaged and so not weeded out.  Some toxins do that in our bodies.  They will mimic some minerals and take over the job of that nutrient, causing damage in our bodies.  A good example of this is Zinc.  The Zink Finger Proteins read the DNA which can then create new cells, replicas of the old ones;  however, the Zinc in our bodies can be replaced by Arsenic or Cadmium which then, mess up our cell replication and so, bad cells are created.

Our bodies require vitamins and minerals to reach and stay in peak condition, but so often we fill them with foods that rob them of the needed nutrients.  White flour leaches out the minerals, coffee and tea are diuretics, white sugar and fat are a lethal combination. Roasted nuts will clog our arteries. Even fruit juices which are so full of quick-release sugar can harm our liver.  Carbonated drinks are full of sugar and cause our bodies to be very acidic.  Diet beverages, sweetened with Aspartame are, pure poison to our bodies.  Look up  Aspartame on the internet and you will never drink a Diet Coke again.

We need to fill our bodies with healthy foods in order to grow or maintain healthy bodies.  So here are some foods and other conditions that alkalize us:

1. High water content foods

2. Low sugar containing foods

 3. Most fresh vegetables

 4. Fresh fruits

  5. Foods or drinks that are rich in antioxidants such as green and white tea and red organic wines.  Usually the darker a fruit is, the more of an antioxidant it is.

   6. Milk, naturally fermented soy sauce, salt, miso,  filtered water especially if  lemon juice is added.   Tap and bottled water can be filled by all sorts of toxins.

    7. Sound mental health – peace of mind, contentment, happiness/joy, forgiveness of others,  ie not holding grudges.

I would love to hear from you and get your opinions.  My next post will be about Antioxidants.

PH and Cancer

30 April, 23:46, by Gloria

The healthier your cells are, the healthier your body will be.  Louis Pasteur said, ” It is not the germ ( that causes disease ) it is the terrain.

The Kidneys, the Liver, the Large Intestine and the  Skin are the organs that maintain our internal environment.  We need to empower our cells to empower our organs.

Onr of the major causes of cancer and other degenerative diseases is the cumulative effect of the acidic condition of the body fluids.

Acidity in the inside of the cells damages cell nuclei, which controls cellular growth, predisposing the cell for cancer.  Cancer is simply damaged cells that reproduce themselves.  Sometimes they masquerade as normal cells and so the body is unable to detect them.  It is now being said that Cancer will pass Heart disease in 2010 as the major cause of death.

SITUATIONS THAT INCREASE ACIDITY

1)  Poor diet

2) Polluted environment

3) Physical exertion and movement ( Think Lactoacidosic.  Your PH drops to 7.26 – 7.27.  Douse your self with antioxidants and anti-inflammatories if you exercise hard)   We will discuss these another day.

4) Smoking and drinking alcohol.

5) Poor digestion

6) Negative thoughts.

7) Spiritual distress

8) Destructive emotions.

I will continue with ways to bring our PH into the slightly alkaline condition in the next post.

The degree of alkalinity in the blood depends on the concentration of the combined elementa, Hydrogen (H) and Oxygen(00) thwhich have been added a free electron causing a negative charge;  this is called a hydroxyl ion (OH-).

Foods that acidify us

22 April, 23:47, by Gloria

I was listening to interesting interviews on the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) this evening. This program was all about the Sandwich Generation which is parents who still have children at home but who are now looking after their elderly parents. All the elderly parents had chronic health problems and sometimes the caregivers did as well. One of the people interviewed had written a book entitled,  You May Live A Long Time.  Are You Prepared?   That might not be quite the tag question, but it meant that.

So I ask you,  ” Are you prepared for a long old age.   What  are you doing to prepare? “  What am I doing?

One thing we all can do is to eat foods that keep our body more alkaline qnd be moderate in eating of foods that acidify us.  Disease loves an acidic body but cannot survive well in alkaline bodies.

Foods That Acidify Us

Foods containing sulfur – all meats

Dairy products except milk

Animal fat

Soda drinks – really raise the acidity

High sugar- content foods and those with sugar substitutes

White rice and white flour

refined, canned and processed foods

chemical additives, colourings and preservatives

nuts, beans, beer, whiskey.  ( I think this may mean roatsed nuts.)

Tap  and bottled water if not filtered, and distilled water

It is the combination of white sugar and animal fats that set the stage for Cancer.  The Inuit ate an abundance of animal fat but no sugar and the East Indians eat a lot of sugar but no animal fat.  Neither of these races are riddled with Cancer as our Society is.

I will talk about acidity, Cancer and other modern diseases in my next post.

Taking Charge Of Your Health

A healthy salad

All of us want success in our lives. We should not neglect our health in order to spend the time with success building activities. In a recent book called Powerful People Lead Healthy Lives the author talks about a shift of power, “the emergence of safe, powerful tools for prevention of sickness and maintenance of good health.

There are 2 approaches to health:   the NATURAL approach which is solution focused.  You build health by looking at the whole body.  The second is the MEDICAL approach or problem.  ” Tell me your problem and I will tell you what medication to take.   If you have side effects, there will be more drugs for that.   The amount of medication a person takes rises steeply with age.   A study has shown that 75% of seniors take 4 to 5 meds per day while those over 79 take 7 to 9 meds per day.

Lets Talk About PH

Our bodies thrive by maintaining homeostasis which is a constant internal environment.  This involves keeping PH body fluids, blood pressure, body temperature, CO2 and O2 levels etc. all within a narrow range.

Although the mouth, stomach, and bladder must be on the acidic side, the blood and body fluids should be at 7.4 (that is slightly alkaline), for homeostasis.  I have been told that if the blood PH falls to 6.95, coma and death result.

Situations That Cause an Acidic PH

  • Poor Diet

  • Polluted environment

  • Physical exertion and movement (cause the PH to drop to 7.26/27)

  • Smoking and drinking alcohol

  • Poor digestion

  • Negative thoughts

  • Spiritual distress

  • Destructive emotions

My Next Post Will Be About Foods That Cause Acidity so I hope you will join me again soon

HELLO

02 April, 12:13, by Gloria

Well, here I am FINALLY.  I’m not sure where all this will lead us, but I want this to be an interactive site.

I am not a Health Professional but I have always been interested in health and am doing a lot of learning in all aspects of health.

I used to think that good health was the outcome of simply eating correctly and taking supplements.  Of course these are very important but there is so much more.

Good health is much more than the absence of illness.  But again many people assume if they are not sick, they are well.  Good health is so much more than even this.
